Live Webinar on "Social Isolation and Confinement" by Prof Thais Russomano

SocialIsolation free WEBINAR

Hosting prominent personalities of international universities, Metropolitan College, organizes the online lecture “Social Isolation and Confinement – Lessons Learned from Space Missions” with Prof Thais Russomano, MD, PhD InnovaSpace UK & King’s College London. The online lecture will be held via Microsoft Teams, on Wednesday 10th June, at 17:00. During her presentation, Prof Thais Russomano is going to explore how space medicine evaluates and addresses the lockdown and social isolation that has currently been experienced by society worldwide as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, through research conducted during actual space flights and analogues on Earth.

It is worth mentioning that the area of space life sciences includes three very relevant research topics: the effects of altered gravity on human beings, the influence of space radiation on living organisms and the impact of psychosocial issues on the mental health of crewmembers. Some aspects of the latter topic relate to the confinement and isolation undergone by astronauts during a space mission, especially for long-term flights. This knowledge acquired during space missions can be used as the basis for a better understanding and more effective management of similar situations on Earth.

The online lecture will be held in English and is addressed to Metropolitan College students, as well as every person interested in this issue.
