{"id":6252,"date":"2019-04-26T10:00:31","date_gmt":"2019-04-26T07:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mitropolitiko.edu.gr\/news\/2951-omilies-apo-20-koryfaious-omilites-tis-naftiliakis-viomixanias-sto-2o-diethnes-synedrio-naftikis-ekpaidefsis\/"},"modified":"2021-07-29T12:09:33","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T09:09:33","slug":"2951-omilies-apo-20-koryfaious-omilites-tis-naftiliakis-viomixanias-sto-2o-diethnes-synedrio-naftikis-ekpaidefsis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mitropolitiko.edu.gr\/en\/news\/2951-omilies-apo-20-koryfaious-omilites-tis-naftiliakis-viomixanias-sto-2o-diethnes-synedrio-naftikis-ekpaidefsis\/","title":{"rendered":"2nd International Conference on Maritime Education by Metropolitan College"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Metropolitan College\u2019s Maritime Academy,\u00a0<\/strong>successfully, organized the\u00a0<strong>2nd International\u00a0Conference on\u00a0Maritime Education<\/strong>\u00a0with the participation and contribution of international and local\u00a0leading personalities of major shipping companies and industry stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;The Challenges of Educating the Seafarer of 2030\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0was the conference\u2019s main theme and was developed in\u00a0<strong>4 discussion panels.<\/strong>\u00a0The Conference took place at\u00a0<strong>Eugenides\u2019 Foundation Lecture Hall<\/strong>\u00a0covering and revealing new aspects extremely interesting, contemporary issues that attracted dozens of professionals and students coming from the shipping and maritime industry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Dinos Arcoumanis, Chairman of the Academic Board, Metropolitan College,<\/strong>\u00a0opened the Conference and welcomed the participants, mentioning the need for well-trained seafarers:\u00a0<em>\u201cCrew in ships are handling sophisticated equipment [\u2026] so ignorance is not allowed in today\u2019s sea men. It is, therefore, sensible to argue that we need to invest in education, both in the public and the private sector\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Eugenides, President of Eugenides Foundation<\/strong>, also made an opening remark and, mentioning the importance of life-long learning, he said:\u00a0<em>\u201cGreek shipping leadership could not have been achieved without the support, the hard work and the perseverance of the Greek seafarers. The adaptation of young seafarers training to the modern requirements of the shipping industry, where technology is a key factor, there is major need for continuous training. The Metropolitan College, in co-orporation with the United Kingdom, namely Solent University and with the renown Warsash Maritime Academy, built a partnership providing an excellent opportunity to European students\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>1st discussion panel\u2019s speakers<\/strong>, Mr. Apostolos Belokas (Managing Editor, SAFETY4SEA), Capt. Michail Fragkias (Senior Marine Advisor, SUN Enterprises), Mrs. Sue Harland (Senior Lecturer, Warsash School of Maritime Science &amp; Engineering) and Capt.
