Research & Innovation Symposium

The 10th Anniversary Student Research & Innovation Symposium of Metropolitan College concluded with resounding success, once again showcasing student research as a leverage for innovation and professional development. Students and graduates from all Faculties and Campuses of the College, alongside esteemed professionals from various fields, presented their work and forward-thinking ideas — from research-based applications to entrepreneurial proposals.
The 10th S.R.I.S. was held under the auspices of the Region of Central Macedonia.
The Symposium’s opening ceremony featured welcome addresses by Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, Deputy Minister of Development responsible for Research and Innovation, and Mr. Nikolaos Tzollas, Deputy Regional Governor of Digital Governance. Attendees were also warmly welcomed by Dr. Christina Paraskevopoulou, CEO of Alphabet Education (Metropolitan College / IEK AKMI).

Over the course of 3 days, the event included:
- 130+ student research presentations
- 15+ distinguished guest speakers
- 10 disciplines represented
Together, they formed a unique combination of academic knowledge and applied expertise, drawing the attention of more than 400 attendees.
Main Round Table
A highlight of the 10th Student Research & Innovation Symposium was the panel discussion titled: “Students Today, Professionals Tomorrow: Bridging Research, Innovation & Entrepreneurship”.
Prominent industry professionals engaged in a fruitful dialogue, highlighting the connection between academic research and career pathways. Among the panelists were:
– Mr. Dimitris Lakasas, CEO, Olympia Electronics S.A.
– Dr. Christos Tausanis, Career Consultant, Scientific Director and Public Speaker
– Ms. Christina Dimatati, HR Professional & Executive Coach
– Mr. Iason Tzanetatos, Machine Learning Engineer, Core Innovation (Alumnus of Metropolitan College: MSc in Electronic and Electrical Systems Engineering, University of Portsmouth & BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Systems, University of East London)
The discussion was moderated by Dr. Evangelos Kontaxakis, President of the Symposium Committee, Deputy Principal for Research & Innovation, and Thessaloniki Campus Director.
The 10th Anniversary Student Research & Innovation Symposium was held in a hybrid format, and welcomed over 400 participants – students, academics and professionals – both in person and online.

During the Student Research & Innovation Symposium, students and graduates of Metropolitan College from across Greece have the opportunity to share their ideas and innovative research projects and be awarded for them.
The Symposium is enriched by the presence and talks of guest-speakers -academics and innovative entrepreneurs from various scientific fields— from all scientific fields who share current and relevant content on research and innovation within their areas of expertise. Through these speeches, students gain valuable knowledge about new trends trends and future developments of their industry.
