The mission of the Faculty of Shipping and Maritime Studies of the Metropolitan College is to train and develop highly-skilled executives, able to pursue successful careers in the dynamically evolving global shipping industry.
Through essays and research projects dealing with real conditions and operational issues, students consolidate knowledge, while also developing the prerequisites for a successful career in international shipping: research skills, business intelligence, team spirit, communicative flair.
The courses of the Faculty of Shipping and Maritime Studies are provided in collaboration with Solent University (Southampton), a world leader in shipping studies, and are considered to be among the top programmes for maritime studies in the world. They contain contemporary modules that cover all areas of maritime business management and port management (entrepreneurship, legal framework, chartering, international trade, management, supply chain, marketing, finance, etc.).
The Metropolitan College is the only provider of higher education in Greece that has such outstanding quality certifications in maritime studies. At the same time, it is accredited by the two most renowned professional associations in the industry worldwide: the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).
Furthermore, the Faculty of Shipping and Maritime Studies is unconditionally certified as a Maritime Training Provider by DNV-GL, the world’s premier classification society, as well as by the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).
It is also a member of the largest international shipping associations: INTERCARGO, IMarEST, IAMI, BIMCO, INTERTANCO and HΕLMEPA.
The Shipping industry is booming and it is a key pillar of international economy, since it represents 90% of international trade. As a result, it offers a number of career opportunities to graduates of the Faculty of Shipping and Maritime Studies, both in Greece and abroad.
