The first Greek College in the Times Higher Education (THE) Global University Impact Rankings 2023
Metropolitan College, the leading College of University Studies in Greece, is the first and only College in the country that entered the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2023, earning a place among leading international and domestic universities.
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). THE Impact Rankings have been published for the last 5 years and have already been established as an authoritative point of reference with great impact and validity worldwide for university education.
The 17 SDGs were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty and protect the planet.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the “The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal urgent call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The 17 SDGs recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
The assessment is based on rigorous qualitative indicators and documented data attached in public reports or related to procedures and policies that are transparently posted, presenting university programmes and initiatives that contribute and aim to sustainable development.
The individual indicators in which Metropolitan College stood out
For 2023, the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings rating included more than 1,700 universities from 112 countries. Metropolitan College, in its first official participation, is among 12 major Greek academic institutions that also participated in the ranking. Metropolitan College stood out for its policy and actions in 6 of the 17 Goals, even occupying competitive positions worldwide in specific individual sub-indicators.
Specifically and in order of itw score performance, it is ranked among the top 201-300 universities in the world, considering the Goal 10 “Reduced Inequalities”. This is followed by Goal 3: “Good Health & Well Being”, Goal 4: “Quality Education” and Goal 5: “Gender Equality” in which Metropolitan College is ranked 301-400 worldwide. This is followed by Goal 1: “Zero Poverty” and Goal 17: “Partnerships for the goals”.
These performance levels reflect, in the most emphatic way, the innovative policies Metropolitan College has adopted in order to contribute to sustainable development. This is achieved by continuous efforts to reduce inequalities, strengthen the position of women in education and administration -management roles, improve the health of its educational community and provide quality inclusive international education.
It is worth mentioning that Metropolitan College is a member of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), since 2021. Additionally, a recent British Council International Survey on the value of Transnational Education (TNE) presented it as an example of good practice based on specific initiatives that reinforce the Sustainable Development Goals.
