MiCRET

The MiCRET project (Microcredentials for Renewable Energy Technicians) tackles the urgent challenge of skills shortages in the renewable energy sector across the EU. The project proposes a systemic approach to upskilling and reskilling through micro-credentials tailored to the green and digital transitions. It aims to establish a unified European framework for micro-credentials that enhances cross-border recognition, transparency, and alignment with national and EU qualifications systems. Through a diverse partnership spanning Greece, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, MiCRET will co-design stackable, modular learning units aligned with industry needs, integrate them with platforms such as Europass, and ensure their sustainability through policy dialogue and ecosystem-building efforts. The initiative supports the implementation of the European Green Deal, the European Skills Agenda, and the Council Recommendation on a European approach to micro-credentials.

Objectives of the project

The MiCRET project is built around a clear set of objectives to address sectoral and policy challenges in the renewable energy workforce:

  1. Develop a European Micro-credential Framework for Renewable Energy
    – To define common standards, formats, and criteria for stackable micro-credentials that are transparent and interoperable across borders.

  2. Bridge the Green and Digital Skills Gaps
    – To design learning pathways focused on emerging needs in renewable energy, including digitalisation, smart energy management, and sustainable systems.

  3. Promote Inclusive, Flexible Learning Opportunities
    – To target youth, adults, and underrepresented groups through accessible and modular learning solutions, aligned with national lifelong learning strategies.

  4. Support Employability and Workforce Mobility
    – To ensure micro-credentials are recognised by employers and education systems, facilitating worker mobility across the EU.

  5. Build a Resilient EU Micro-credentials Ecosystem
    – To engage stakeholders from policy, industry, and education in the co-creation of a robust, interoperable micro-credential landscape.

  6. Align with and Contribute to European Policy Agendas
    – To support the European Green Deal, Digital Education Action Plan, and the Council Recommendation on micro-credentials.

Expected Main Results

Expected Results

The key outcomes MiCRET aims to achieve include:

  1. Micro-Credential Design Blueprint
    – A practical, validated model for designing micro-credentials in the renewable energy sector, co-created with education providers and industry.

  2. Integrated Online Platform
    – A digital interface linked with Europass and national systems, enabling learners to access, track, and share micro-credentials easily.

  3. Pilot Learning Programs
    – Delivery of at least 5 pilot micro-credential learning paths, tested across partner countries with diverse learner groups.

  4. Policy Recommendations and White Papers
    – Evidence-based guidelines to inform national and EU-level decisions on the adoption and regulation of micro-credentials.

  5. Ecosystem Engagement Reports
    – Documentation of stakeholder consultations, regional validation workshops, and employer feedback loops.

  6. Trained Educators and Technical Experts
    – A trained community of VET educators, trainers, and curriculum designers capable of scaling micro-credential initiatives.

  7. Sustainability Strategy and Business Model
    – A roadmap ensuring continued use and expansion of MiCRET outputs beyond the project’s lifetime, including integration into institutional strategies.
