The MSc Medical Genetics and Genomics offered by Metropolitan College, aims to develop highly skilled scientists in the study, analysis, and diagnosis of genetic disorders, with specialization in contemporary molecular techniques, combining medical genomics with bioinformatics.

We are currently experiencing a period of rapid transformation in medicine: the era of medical genetics and genomic medicine has arrived. Moving beyond the historical phase of studying individual genes or small regions within a genome, the advent of the Human Genome Project and related technological advances have enabled genome-centred analysis, transforming both research and clinical applications. Clinical genomics is rapidly evolving, focusing on areas such as chromosomal abnormalities, monogenic disorders, gene analysis, pharmacogenomics, immunogenomics, and genome-wide genetic variation studies, while increasingly linking genomic information with environmental factors. Medical genetics and genomics are now widely integrated into patient care, including cancer genomics and treatment within national healthcare systems, as well as clinical research.

The aim of this programme is to equip students with an in-depth understanding of the principles of medical omics, enabling them to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the development and application of modern technologies, genetic analysis, diagnosis, and interpretation of genomic approaches for careers in genomic medicine, clinical research, healthcare, and related professions.

Successful completion of the programme within one year leads to the award of a Master of Science degree from Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom.
