Metropolitan College Greece shortlisted for the PIEoneer Awards 2026 with two international nominations

International recognition for innovation in healthcare education and the future of global business education.

Metropolitan College has been shortlisted as a finalist at the internationally recognised PIEoneer Awards 2026, receiving two major nominations that highlight its strategic commitment to educational innovation, international collaboration, and industry-connected higher education.

Recognised globally as one of the leading distinctions in international higher education, the PIEoneer Awards celebrate institutions and initiatives that actively shape the future of education through innovation, internationalisation, and real-world impact.

Finalist in the category “Partnership of the Year”

Metropolitan College Greece and Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche have been shortlisted in the category “Partnership of the Year” for the initiative: “Pan-European Diabetes & Obesity Primary Care Education Partnership” and the provision of Postgraduate Certificate in Diabetes and Obesity in Primary Care.

The nomination recognises a pioneering pan-European collaboration bringing together higher education institutions, clinical networks, and healthcare and pharmaceutical industry partners with the aim of transforming professional education in diabetes and obesity within Primary Care. The initiative is delivered through the collaboration of Metropolitan College Greece and the Medical School of Universidad Miguel Hernández, in partnership with Primary Care Diabetes Europe (PCDE) and Primary Care Diabetes Greece (PCDG), alongside leading healthcare and industry partners. Strategic contributors to the programme include Abbott, Boehringer Ingelheim, Blue Med and other organisations operating across the healthcare and medical technology sectors.

The programme delivers a clinically embedded, practice-oriented postgraduate educational model for healthcare professionals, integrating:

  • blended and flexible learning
  • hands-on clinical workshops
  • multidisciplinary care approaches
  • advanced medical technologies and therapeutic innovations
  • applied training in real-world clinical scenarios

A defining characteristic of the initiative is the active contribution of private-sector healthcare and pharmaceutical partners, whose involvement extends beyond sponsorship and directly enhances the educational experience and practical training of participants. This integration of academia, clinical practice, and industry innovation creates a highly immersive and professionally relevant learning ecosystem, enabling healthcare professionals to engage directly with modern technologies, therapeutic approaches, and multidisciplinary patient-management models.

In 2025, the programme trained 30 healthcare professionals from across Greece, achieving a 92% participant satisfaction rate and demonstrating strong impact in professional healthcare education.

Finalist in the category “Business School of the Year”

Metropolitan College Greece has also been shortlisted in the category “Business School of the Year” for the initiative: “The Industry-Embedded Global Business School”. The nomination highlights a contemporary model of business education designed to respond to the rapidly evolving needs of the global workforce and internationally mobile learners.

Moving beyond traditional classroom-based delivery, the initiative positions the Faculty of Business as an Industry-Embedded Global Business School, integrating academic learning directly within real-world business environments.  The educational model is built around three core pillars:

  1. Live industry projects and consultancy-based learning
  2. Digitally enabled and globally accessible education
  3. Strong employer engagement throughout the student journey

A defining element of the initiative is the integration of real-world business simulation ecosystems, where students participate in realistic business scenarios involving strategic decision-making, crisis management, leadership under pressure, and negotiations. The approach aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and professional practice, strengthening both applied learning and workplace readiness.

Today, the Faculty of Business serves more than 2,000 students through a broad portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes aligned with emerging global workforce trends, including Business Analytics, FinTech, Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and International Business.

International recognition and strategic significance

The two PIEoneer Awards 2026 nominations reinforce the strategic positioning of Metropolitan College Greece as a modern, internationally connected, and innovation-driven higher education institution. The finalists of the 2026 PIEoneer Awards bring together leading universities, organisations, and educational initiatives from across the world, recognising excellence and innovation in international education.

The winners will be officially announced during the PIEoneer Awards ceremony later this year.
