Description
The BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy, is the only university programme in Occupational Therapy offered in Greece. Occupational Therapy is the science that promotes the participation of people in specific activities, aiming at improving their abilities to engage in the occupations which are necessary for their independent living. These abilities include self-care, work, entertainment, home and community activities. Occupational Therapy is a health profession which through the therapeutic use of adapted activities aims at helping persons of any age who have body, developmental, emotional, psychological and social deficits recover the abilities to engage in occupations that are necessary for a functional independence, health and wellness. Occupational Therapy draws its theoretical and research background from the fields of Psychology, Neurology, Pathology Sociology, Anthropology and many other sciences. Occupational therapists work with each person individually, in groups or at family and community levels, in order to promote health and wellness through the individual’s participation or re-involvement with activity and work. They engage in dealing with the repercussions of the disease or disability that affect the daily life of a person (individual, social, family, professional, etc), by conducting a detailed analysis of the physical, environmental, psychosocial, intellectual and cultural factors that hinder the execution of a task and suggesting any relevant adjustments. The programme of study covers the subject of the functional activities of a person in the areas of self-care and productivity, identification of dysfunctional elements and specialised ergotherapeutic intervention, aiming at achieving the best possible level of functionality and adaptive behavior, so that they could lead a normal life.

Since 2014, Metropolitan College has been a member of the European Network of Occupational Therapy in Higher Education- ΕΝΟΤΗΕ. It is the only educational institution in Greece that is a member of ENOTHE. The College, having shared visions with other European Institutions and being a full member, actively participates in the activities of ENOTHE.

The BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy programme of study offers the necessary skills to those who wish to advance professionally in the Occupational Therapy sector. Graduates can:
- o Work in the private and public sectors, as members of a rehabilitation team, or as senior staff in hospitals, rehabilitation centres or chronic disease institutions, or in institutions for the elderly and Open Protection Centres of the Elderly (KAPI) or community mental health centres, special education units, detox centres and penitentiary centres/prisons; they can aslo offer their services to persons whose life has been disrupted by a bodily injury, developmental problems, old age or social and emotional problems.
- Work as freelancers, developing their own Occupational Therapy Centre.
- Continue their studies at postgraduate level in Greece and abroad.
