State Center Community College District of California students at Metropolitan College

Metropolitan College welcomed and hosted a group of students and faculty members from abroad. More precisely, 18 students and 2 faculty members from State Center Community College District, California attended a study abroad program at Metropolitan College’s Athens Downtown campus and took part in lectures and extra-curricular activities, aiming to explore greek culture, history, tradition and gastronomy.
The lectures were focused on culture and the context of Archaeology & World Pre-History and Public Speaking and held in hybrid lessons (online & face-to-face instruction).
While in Greece, students also had the opportunity a lot of site visits and day trips included: the Acropolis, Mycenae, Epidaurus, Corinth, Aristotle’s Lyceum and a day trip to the island of Hydra. In order to enrich their experience and contact with Greek culture, Metropolitan College organised a specially designed Greek Gastronomy workshop.
During the workshop, students watched the making process of traditional greek dishes by an expert chef and, also, tasted the delicious result. By the end of the trip and completion of coursework, students earned 3 or 6 credits towards their general education and transfer degrees as well as an introduction to Greek culture.
