In the context of HoTEL OPEN FORUM (Hospitality Tourism Education League) institution of the Faculty of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Metropolitan College welcomed and hosted, with great success, two prominent personalities in the hotel industry. Guest speakers Mr Giannis Retsos, President of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) and Mrs Ioanna Dretta, CEO Marketing Greece for the lecture “Tourism and career prospects”.
The President of Metropolitan College, Mr Konstantinos Rodopoulos, opened the event welcoming the guest speakers and highlighting the importance of Tourism as a main pillar of our country’s development. Subsequently, both guest speakers took their place on the stage. During their speeches, they both focused on Tourism industry’s values, today practices and vision.
Addressing to Metropolitan College’s students, Mr Retsos said: “Things in Tourism have changed. Working in the tourism industry is no longer considered as an occasional activity, but an area that offers great professional opportunities. Also, when companies hire new employees, they now take into consideration attitude and character above skills. Adaptability is the key of success“.
Mrs Dretta, during her speech, talked about Destination Marketing emphasizing the communicative aspect of Tourism. She mentioned: “Storytelling is a basic tool when it comes to the promotion of a destination. Authenticity matters too. Modern traveller seeks for the authentic experience by all means. The human touch is a priority in communication”.
Hospitality & Tourism Management students showed their interest and enthusiasm by being active and asking lots of questions at the end of the lecture.
