Guided tour and presentation on air transportation operations at “Eleftherios Venizelos” and “Macedonia SKG” airports.

Students from both Athens and Thessaloniki campuses of Metropolitan College had the unique opportunity to participate in an exclusive workshop on Air Transport Management.

The seminar, titled “Sustaining Flight: Fundamentals of Air Transport Management” was organized by Metropolitan College and supported from Athens International Airport and Fraport Greece. It was held at the premises of Athens International Airport and Thessaloniki Airport Macedonia, respectively.

Dr. Triant Flouris, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Metropolitan College, served as the keynote speaker. Throughout his comprehensive presentation, Dr. Flouris delved into the principles and fundamentals of Air Transport Management systems, shedding light on the intricate components and operations that constitute this complex system, ranging from the ticket reservation process to the secure transportation of passengers.

Educational in-situ visits are incorporated in all Metropolitan College's programmes of study as they promote students' motivation for knowledge and their connection with the functioning of the job market.

During the interactive presentation, students witnessed a simulation of a commercial flight from gate (departure airport) to gate (arrival airport), encompassing all stages of the flight: preparation, airport operations, air traffic management functions, and post-flight actions. Additionally, they had the opportunity to interact with all the systems used to facilitate the operation of the air transportation system.

The presentation was followed by a guided tour of the key facilities and operations. Students made stops at keypoint stations of the airports such as the Crisis Management Center, the Operations Control Center, the Firefighting, Airport Terminal, and the Air Traffic Control Tower.

Through this educational event, they gained in-depth knowledge of the air transportation system operations and the the importance of various aspects of aviation safety and passenger experience. Impressed by what they saw and experienced, they described their participation as a “unique, unforgettable experience.”
