Faculty of Shipping and Maritime Studies
The mission of the Faculty of Shipping and Maritime Studies at Metropolitan College is the training and development of highly-skilled executives, able to pursue successful careers in the dynamically evolving global job market of the Shipping and Maritime sector. Shipping is a key link in the global supply chain and accounts for over 95 per cent of all imports and exports. About 90 per cent of world trade is carried by the shipping industry, which offers graduates exciting and varied opportunities, both in Greece and abroad.
The degrees are offered by Southampton Solent University, a world leader in Shipping studies. The University owns Warsash Maritime Academy, the world’s premier maritime education and training provider, offering first class education, training, consultancy and research services to the international shipping, commercial yacht, and offshore oil and gas industries for nearly 70 years. The academic programmes consist of up-to-date modules which cover all the latest trends and aspects of the functional and practical areas of Shipping, Maritime and Port Management.
Metropolitan College is the only higher education institution in Greece that is accredited by the two most prestigious professional societies in the shipping industry worldwide, namely the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers-ICS and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport-CILT. Moreover, it is an Associate Member of INTERCARGO, the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners, and a Marine Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), the international membership body and learned society for marine professionals operating in the spheres of marine engineering, science, or technology.
Metropolitan College is a Corporate Member of the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association-HELMEPA. The membership's aim is to support the association’s actions to create an environmental conscience in shipping, maritime safety and to maintain a clean marine environment, as well as to expand students training opportunities at contemporary issues and increase awareness of the marine environment protection.
